Yes, scattering cremated remains at sea is legal when done in compliance with federal and state requirements, including the federal rule that cremated remains be scattered at least three nautical miles from shore. Every memorial sail with Kai Charters travels to three nautical miles offshore so your ceremony meets that requirement.

Kai Charters offers three tiers. Farewell includes the full private charter, a compassionate captain and crew, a standard ceremony script, and the GPS coordinates of the scattering location. Memorial adds a fully customizable ceremony script, fresh flower petals scattered alongside the ashes, and a printed keepsake card with coordinates and date. Legacy adds a floral wreath placed on the water, a framed GPS coordinate certificate, and priority scheduling with a dedicated booking contact.
How many family members can attend the ceremony?
Up to 12 guests can sail on a memorial charter. Every sailing is fully private to your family — there are no shared departures or other passengers aboard, the same private-vessel standard as all of our private boat charters in Long Beach.
Will we know where the ashes were scattered?
Yes. Every service includes the GPS coordinates of the scattering location. The Memorial tier adds a printed keepsake card with the coordinates and ceremony date, and the Legacy tier includes a framed GPS coordinate certificate as a lasting record of exactly where your loved one was laid to rest.
