Frequently Asked Questions About Rent a Boat For Filming
How much does it cost to rent a boat for filming?
Production charters aboard the Cocokai start at $1,500 for a Half Day (up to 5 hours), $3,000 for a Full Day (6–10 hours), and $5,500/day for multi-day productions. Additional crew fees run $100–$125/hr depending on staffing requirements, and there are no fuel surcharges on production bookings with Kai Charters.
What kind of productions has the Cocokai been used for?
The Cocokai has been featured in multi-episode streaming productions for major platforms, music videos for internationally recognized recording artists, fashion and editorial shoots with repeat production teams, commercial and branded content campaigns, and ongoing creator content for social audiences in the millions.
Why film on a schooner instead of a modern yacht?
The Cocokai is a classic 75 ft schooner with real sails, rigging, wood finishes, and cinematic lines — a production-ready atmosphere that modern fiberglass yachts can’t replicate. If your production needs period character, movement, and scale on the water, a wooden schooner delivers it in-frame without set dressing.
Is there room on board for camera rigs and a production crew?
Yes. The open deck provides flexible space for camera rigs, lighting equipment, production crews, and staging, and the vessel carries up to 12 people. Overnight accommodations are available for multi-day shoots — the same deck space that hosts our corporate boat charters and team events.
Where can we film?
Productions depart from Shoreline Marina in Long Beach, CA, with a coastal range of up to 26 miles — covering the Long Beach shoreline out to Catalina Island for remote and location-specific filming. It’s the same route our private Catalina Island boat charters sail, so your location scout can preview the full range of backdrops before the shoot.
Can we book multi-day shoots?
Yes. Multi-day productions start at $5,500/day and can include overnight accommodations aboard. Email us your dates, staffing needs, and shot requirements and we’ll build a production schedule around your call sheet. If your project involves filming a ceremony or documentary content, our crew’s experience with sea memorial services means sensitive productions are handled with the same care.
