Frequently Asked Questions About Charters
How much does a private boat charter in Long Beach cost?
Private boat charters with Kai Charters start at $750 total for a Quarter Day (2–3 hours), which works out to about $63 per person with 12 guests. Half Day charters (4–5 hours) start at $1,399, Full Day charters (6–10 hours) start at $1,949, and multi-day Catalina Island trips are priced per person based on your itinerary. There are no fuel surcharges, and your marina parking pass is included.
How many guests can join a charter aboard the Cocokai?
The Cocokai, our 75 ft schooner, carries up to 12 guests on every charter. That capacity applies to all trip lengths, from a 2-hour Quarter Day sail to a multi-day Catalina Island charter — and the same private vessel hosts our corporate events on the water for teams of up to 12.
Can we bring our own alcohol on the boat?
Yes — Kai Charters is BYOB. Bring your own wine, champagne, beer, or spirits, and we provide the glassware, ice, and corkage at no extra charge. Water and sodas are also included with every charter.
Can you sail to Catalina Island?
Yes. Catalina Island charters run 1 to 4 days and cover the 26-mile crossing from Long Beach to Catalina’s secluded coves, diving spots, and harborside dining. Catalina trips are priced per person (based on 12 guests), plus a crew fee of $100–$125/hr paid directly to the captain and deckhand on the day of the charter. The same Catalina range is available for film and content production charters that need remote, location-specific backdrops.
What occasions is a private charter good for?
Birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, engagements, bachelorette parties, and hosting out-of-town guests are the most common reasons guests book the Cocokai. A Half Day charter is the sweet spot for celebrations, while a Full Day charter lets you anchor at Island White and stay out for sunset. For quieter occasions, we also offer private memorial services and ash scattering ceremonies at sea.
Can we add food or catering to our charter
Yes. Through our partnership with Primal Alchemy Catering and Events, you can add anything from “Sail Away” appetizer platters to a five-course wine and food pairing served aboard by a top local chef. Culinary cruise pricing is available on request when you book.
